SERVING THE COMMUNITY

I bring a unique perspective to the school board, because I attended Durham schools. So did both my children, and three of my grandchildren are now the third generation of my family to attend Oyster River schools. My father, Norman Stiles, served the Durham community for many years, both as a selectman and as a town council member. I have followed in his footsteps, caring deeply for this community and its future, and serving in a number of leadership roles. My husband, Tommy was maintenance supervisor for the school district for 18 years, which gave me a good understanding of the daily operations of the schools.

I look forward to another school board term as a "doer." I am in the schools on a daily basis, and plan to continue to listen to our kids and our community members and to search for solutions that are as cost-effective as possible.

I will be sensitive to class size, space and technology needs for the district, but that does not mean I will throw money at problems. Instead, I will face the problems and look for solutions that are cost-effective. Decisions must be made in the interests of the students' educational needs, and balanced by the financial means of the community.

EXPERIENCE

VISION STATEMENT

As a school board member, I see myself as a leader in the search for better public education. I am committed to providing the leadership that will set the course for our school into the 21st century. Together we can make a difference in the quality of education and in the lives of our children.
