See what other voters have to say about Dennis Lamare.

I am 40 yrs of age, married with a 11 year old son who attends Oyster River Middle School. I have been employed at Erie Scientific. Co in Portsmouth for 10 years as a screenprinter.

I grew up in Newport, NH and graduated from Newport High School in 1974. I attended Boston University for 2 years taking business courses.

l have been a resident of Lee for the past 8 yrs. With at least 6 years being devoted to community service with Cub Scouts, Little league baseball and most recently with the Friends of Lee Recreation committee. At last year's forum I urged the voters of this district to change the direction that this school district was heading. Some of the issues that I supported or brought forward passed by community vote or was adopted by the School Board. Headway has been made but there is still work to be done.

The curriculum needs to be re-evaluated to provide consistency for students through all grades k-12. Our first priority is to strengthen and enhance the basics of reading, writing and arithmetic. An education cannot be given to students, it must be earned. Testing and guidance should be done at regular intervals to ensure that each student gets the necessary foundation to progress to the next level.

We must continually challenge each student to expand their capacity for learning. When a student is properly inspired that child will rise to meet that challenge. What greater reward can there be than self esteem and confidence in the ability to reach higher standards. Creating an atmosphere of continuous educational improvement will be my main priority.

I'm pleased to see that the School Board is finally making some progress toward making meaningful teacher evaluation a reality. However, I'm concerned that we must do more than just form a committee. As a board member, I will work to see that the committee completes it's work in a timely manner and that implementation actually occurs.

Our district has begun to move in a positive direction by addressing our space needs, hiring new administrators committed to academic excellence and increasing public participation in the voting process. I am prepared to work with the School Board to continue this progress and make Oyster River as good as its reputation.

What do I believe, are the fundamental goals of public education?

For me the biggest goal for public education is to ensure that every child be competent in reading, writing and arithmetic.

Every person should be literate and possess knowledge necessary to compete in society and to exercise the responsibilities of citizenship.

Public education must provide structure through a strong curriculum, discipline through accountability and guidance through role models.

These can be accomplished by:

  1. A curriculum that stresses the importance of reading. writing? and math. Curriculum can be expanded beyond the basics, of course, but the foundation must be sound to support what is built onto it.

  2. Discipline that is firm and fair.

  3. Teachers as role models to inspire and expand the potential of each student to excel. Regular meaningful evaluation to provide assurance that curriculum guidelines are being met.

In providing these for our school, we will recapture the tradition of excellence for which our district is known.

With the school district moving in a positive direction, work has to continue that will support that move. The curriculum must be consistent and progressive. Regular and meaningful testing to ensure that a student is competent in reading, writing and arithmetic.

Public education must provide the structure to enhance growth of each child to be productive members of our community, discipline through accountability and guidance through role mode!s.

An education cannot be given it must be earned. We must challenge each student to expand their capacity for learning. When a student is properly inspired that child will rise to meet the challenge before them. Creating an atmosphere of continuous educational improvement will be my main priority.

I ask for your support this year to continue moving our district forward. I have lived in this district for eight years and have been involved in community affairs. 'This has prepared me to deal with the issues facing the School Board and be a representative that Lee and the whole district can be proud of.
