Joan has been a resident of Madbury since September, 1990. She has been married to Harry for 26 years and they have two children; Ben is 17, a junior at ORHS, and Kristin is 14, an 8th grader at ORMS.
Joan has served this community since 1994 as a member of the Oyster River School Board, and for the past two years, has been elected Chairperson.
Joan has volunteered thousands of hours of service in Oyster River Schools since 1990 in many different capacities.
Joan has a B.S. degree in Nursing from Wagner College and has been a Registered Nurse for 26 years, working in a variety of pediatric and community settings.

"I have a strong interest in children and in public education. I believe it is a community's responsibility to educate and nurture its youth to become self-reliant, productive members of society. To accomplish this goal, we need to foster life-long learning skills in cost effective ways. I am aware that the 90's are difficult times for many people, but I also know that these are difficult times to be a growing child. Schools, families and communities need to work together to provide high quality education at an affordable price."

During a period of great change in the Oyster River School District, I believe I can provide leadership and stability. I will do my best to serve our students and our community with courtesy and respect for the opinions of others. I will continue to question and to base my decisions on thoughtful reflection of:

What's best for improving student learning?
How many students will benefit?
What is the impact on students, staff, families and the community?
Is it cost effective?
Is it affordable?
