There are 4 open positions this year in the Oyster River School District: 3 at-large seats on the School Board, and the Moderator. Two of the School Board seats are for regular 3 year terms. One seat is a 1 year term due to the resignation of School Board member Patrice Gray. The election for these positions will be held on 13 March 2000 in each of the 3 towns.
The open School Board seats are those currently held by Robert LaMont and David K. Taylor for 3 years and Patrice Gray for 1 year. Each of these seats are at-large, representing all 3 towns. LaMont and Taylor were elected 3 years ago. Gray was reelected to a second term 2 years ago. The filing period ended 2 Feb. 2001.
These are the candidates for the School Board:
3 Year Terms (vote for 2)
1 Year Term (vote for 1)
The Moderator runs the annual school district meeting. Dale Swanson has held this position for the last several years. William Shaheen is the only candidate for Moderator.
There are 2 sessions for the annual district meeting. The first session will be Tuesday 6 Feb. 2001 at 7:00 p.m. at Oyster River High School. The warrant lists the issues to be voted on by the district. The warrant articles will be discussed and may be amended at the first session. The second session will be a ballot vote on 13 Mar. 2001 when the candidates are elected and the warrant articles are voted on.
The ballot for the warrant will list all warrant articles including the 2 petitions on a fund for a track and to rescind the authority to sell the Foss Farm land submitted with 25 or more signatures of voters. The warrant also includes the budget for fiscal year 2002.
