I bring a unique perspective to the school board, because I attended Durham schools, as did both of my children. Three of my grandchildren are now the third generation of my family to attend Oyster River schools. I care deeply for this community and its future, while serving in a number of leadership roles. My husband, Tommy, was maintenance supervisor and the electrician for the school district for 18 years, which gave me a good understanding of the daily operations of the schools. I look forward to another school board term as a "doer." I am in the schools on a daily basis, and plan to continue to listen to our students, our community members, and to search for solutions that are as cost-effective as possible. I will be sensitive to class size, space and technology needs for the district, but that does not mean I will throw money at problems. Instead, I will face the problems and look for solutions that are cost-effective. Decisions must be made in the interests of the students educational needs, and balanced by the financial means of the community.
As a school board member, I see myself as a leader in the search for better public education. I am committed to providing the leadership that will set the course for our schools for the 21st century. Together we can make a difference in the quality of education and in the lives of our children.
