SPAN: August 1996

A Communication from the Oyster River School Board

UPDATE ON BOARD GOALS
1996 - 1997

VISION STATEMENT: To provide a learning environment which fosters excellence in education by challenging each individual to produce his/her best effort and highest quality work in a positive setting.

Accomplished! See front page for introduction to Middle School Principal Marcia Ross and High School Principal Christopher Cairns.
  1. Renovations are on schedule and classrooms will be ready to house students on their first day back. See back page for update.

  2. A twelve member High School Space Needs Study Committee has been working diligently to identify viable options, and a consultant has been retained to estimate the costs for same. The committee's report is scheduled to be completed in October and presented to the school board with recommendations for providing an appropriate educational environment to meet the needs of our high school students.

  3. The State Fire Marshal has ruled that the district is responsible for installing a sprinkler system, and the School Board will be discussing options.
A restructured District Technology Committee (with representation from each of the schools, the board, administration, and community) has met and is beginning to address the board charge to the committee.
During the next several months the School Board will concentrate its efforts on reviewing the system of teacher evaluation within the parameters of the teacher/board agreement.
  • Review curriculum, particularly math, music, foreign language, and character/citizenship education, and means for assessing same.
The School Board will hear reports and recommendations, with a schedule of activity to be established in September.

Goals are not listed in priority order.
