The Oyster River School Board, at its meeting of Tuesday evening, June 4, elected candidates to the two assistant principalship positions- at Oyster River Middle School. Named were Patricia Cushing of Barrington and Christopher Pollet of Stratham.
Ms. Cushing is currently the Enrichment and Technology Coordinator for the North Hampton School District, previous to which she was the Coordinator/Teacher for the Talented and Gifted Program in Litchfield, Connecticut. Pat began her career in Montana where she first taught grade 4, following which she taught junior high language arts and social studies. She later served as coordinator of the Community Education Program for the Fromberg, Montana, public schools In North Hampton she has recently been immersed in the district's restructuring efforts and has played a key role in staff development.
Ms. Cushing has a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education/Social Sciences from Eastern Montana College. Her Masters degree is from the University of Connecticut in Educational Psychology and Special Education, and she is currently enrolled in the Advanced Administrative Studies Program at the University of New Hampshire. In addition to the technology, curriculum, and supervisory skills that Ms. Cushing will bring to the middle school is her "students' first" attitude.
Christopher Pollet is currently an Assistant Principal at the Rochester Middle School where he earlier taught middle school social studies and served as the leader of his instructional team. Mr. Pollet is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He also holds a Masters in Education degree from the university, with a concentration in special needs. He is continuing his program at the university as a student in the Advanced Studies Program in School Administration.
Christopher Pollet is familiar with the Oyster River District, having served his undergraduate internship program at Oyster River High School. He also served as the Junior Varsity Baseball Coach at Oyster River from 1989 to 1995. Mr. Pollet brings a youthful energy level to the school, a clear student focus, and scheduling experience.
The two administrative positions filled by the Board became available upon the announcement of current Assistant Principal Elizabeth Chamberlain that she was leaving to complete her doctoral program, and by the action of the March 1996 school district meeting which added a second assistant principal to address the needs of the 750-pupil school.
Ms. Cushing and Mr. Pollet will join recently-elected principal Marcia Ross, forming a team dedicated to collaborative decision-making and consensus building in working with staff to move the school forward in the renovated facility expected to be completed in September.
