World Myths and Legends

During October and late November Oyster River High School will be hosting World Myths and Legends and Artist in Residence Program (AIR) funded in cooperation by the school and OREW along with a grant from the NH State Council on the Arts and a donation from the Barnes Management Company. Writer Katherine Towler; story theater artist, Genevieve Aichele of the NH Theater Project; musician Randy Armstrong; and artist and set designer, Mark Ragonese will be in residence at ORHS to work both separately and together with students. They will explore the traditions of oral storytelling by reading and discussing myths and folk tales from around the world, writing original folk tales, transforming these tales into dramatic scripts, learning the tools of story theater, developing musical accompaniment for the stories and creating a set to support the theater pieces. This residency will include several English, World Cultures, Art and Music classes as well as any other interested students. World Myths and Legends will be an exciting interdisciplinary project enhancing our curriculum and building a stronger connection with the arts. The final production, which will be story theater for children of all ages, will be performed in two evening performances on November 22 in the ORHS cafeteria at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. We encourage parents to bring their elementary and middle school students to see this exciting program. For more information about this residency or the performances please contact Nancy Sawyer at 659-3795.
