HIGHLIGHTER

The Lynne Little OREW Award
for
Volunteerism

The Lynne Little OREW Award for Volunteerism is given each year to two graduating seniors who best exemplify the spirit of service to the school and community. Named for an Oyster River District mother who generously contributed her time and talents for more than ten years before her death from cancer in 1991, the Award recognizes the efforts of students who have worked selflessly for the betterment of people without expectation of reward. This could be manifested by participation in school or church service activities, or in a less formal manner such as helping in the office at school, with elderly relatives or neighbors, participation in school or town government or active membership in Girl or Boy Scouts.

A monetary gift of $250, along with a certificate, will be presented to each winner at the graduation ceremonies by a member of OREW, and the recipient's names will be added to a plaque which hangs in the Principal's Office.

No restriction is placed on the use of the money, although it is hoped that it would be spent to help defray college tuition costs or purchase necessary tools and/or materials for those students planning on entering a vocational school or the workplace.
