Beginning with the fall season of 1996/97 all high school soccer and basketball players across the nation will be required to wear a colored mouthguard for protection. Fitted mouthguards are recommended by most dentists and often can be reasonably purchased through your family dentist. Another option is the generic style available in drug stores or sporting good stores, but they are not molded to the players teeth like the fitted ones.
We recommend that families talk with their own dentist to help make the best choice for them. Be sure that the mouthguard chosen is colored, not clear, so that the referees can see it.
