THE BOARD'S CHARGE

At its May 20,1998 meeting the Board approved the following charge for the Community Advisory Committee:

"To provide the school board with a sense of community report using the results of the survey, on suggested direction and identification of specific key issues for bond proposal(s) for 1999."

Additionally the Board voted that the purpose of the Community Advisory Committee was:

"To advise the school board about the 1999 bond proposal(s) concerning the facilities problem at Oyster River High School. The recommendations of the Community Advisory Committee will be seriously considered by the Board but will be non-binding."

Timeline

The projected timeline for the committee's work is:

• Initial report at the July 15 school board meeting;
• an update will be presented at the July 29 school board meeting.

PROJECT OBJECTIVE

At its September 16, 1997 work session the Oyster River School Board reached consensus that the objectives of the high school project are to:

• meet the needs of our students now and for the foreseeable future
• be educationally sound
• support quality programs
• address and correct problems and provide for the current and future needs
• be economically feasible
• create a positive learning environment
• meet State standards for instructional space
• comply with current life safety and BOCA codes
