Verbatim Answers to Open Survey Questions
QO9: What is the Primary reason you voted against the bond proposal?
($12.75 million, to cover infrastructure renovations, new labs and new gymnasium wing)
- If we need classroom space lets build it. They are not looking at the most cost
effective method of accomplishing this. The gym and auditorium are frivolous
expenses that we don't need. We should address the real needs like classroom
space and expenses that don't do anything for education.
- The plan was inadequate, and the site too small.
- It is too expensive and the money was not focused directly toward academics.
- More studies need to be done and more information needs to be given to the
public.
- Too expensive for what was proposed.
- Inadequate management of funds.
- Not adequate for future needs.
- These were ill informed proposals that were not thought out well enough and
too expensive for what the communities were getting. They are a bad value for
the money.
- The needs of the school were not met and there was not enough open
discussion in the entire process.
- Young people need to learn to take care of what they already have before
something new is given to them.
- Can't trust the school district.
- The money and building plans are a mess.

- While the school does need additions, I was unhappy with the design, not well
thought out or planned. Did not like the bidding process and the contractor
chosen.
Q10: Were there any other reasons you voted against the bond proposal?
($12.75 million, to cover infrastructure renovations, new labs and new
gymnasium wing)
- They have messed up on other bond construction programs specifically at
Mastway and the Middle School. They are not asking the right questions which
will lead to the same dismal results.
- Didn't like the high maintenance roof design.
- I didn't think it was something we needed.
- Doesn't need a new auditorium, or a new gymnasium.
- Proposed construction is inadequate to site.
- Negative article in the paper.
- Taxes high already, especially for retired people.
- Plan is too expensive.
- We're just not getting enough for the money.
- The school is overrated anyway.
- Educators are building the building.
- Foolish and not adequate, ship non A students out.
- I don't think everybody was well informed.
- Taxes are a concern to me and nobody seems to have thought of it.
- Money could be spent better.
- Concerned because of Middle School.
- Opposed to entire school system too many people that pay no taxes, no
common sense-protest vote.
- Too much money per student-raise taxes.
Q13: What is the primary reason you voted against the bond proposal?
($2.8 million for an additional 500 seat auditorium at the high school)
- My answer is the same as the previous one. They didn't deliver on Mastway
and
Middle School.
- Start with the infrastructure first.
- There are three towns with differing incomes. Madbury has fewer students but
pays the highest taxes, most of which go to the school district.
- We don't need an auditorium to educate students.
- Overall disregard for the school board.
- Not adequate for future needs.
- I'm not sure the auditorium should be paid for by the tax payers. It should
be bigger so that it could be used for outside school events to make a profit,
rather than just having the tax payers pay for this for only school events.
- It didn't meet the needs of even the current student body. The placement of
the proposed addition did not allow for any further expansion in the future.
- If young people can't take care of what they already have, why should we give
them anything new.
- Too small.
- We already have one.
- Auditorium not big enough.
- Doesn't need a new auditorium.
- I did not think that it was thought out well.
- The auditorium is not needed.
- Wants it all done together.
- Too much monetary waste, not enough seats to make it profitable.
- Only showed one side of the issue. Limited amount of options.
- I did not think that size auditorium was big enough.
- Size and seats.
- Too small.
- School board did not exhaust their options. They should not have separated
the projects, this way it becomes too complicated and too expensive.
- Don't need an auditorium, should spend on academics.
- They do not need it.
- We can rent the Johnson theater for less, it is not cost effective.
- I felt it was not necessary for separate, dedicated auditorium and cost was
out of line with other similar projects.
- Too expensive.
- Don't need an auditorium.
- They need a better plan to save money.
- I wanted better programming and look into more.
- No one showed me the need for an auditorium.
- I do not believe in this.
- Do not need auditorium.
- Need classrooms more.
- Not needed.
- They are the same people who proposed HS infrastructure renovations. They
are the same people who gave us two other disasters in town and there is
nothing redeeming in this proposal. Also, they have never done this before. The
proposal is overpriced and inadequate. I have a daughter in Ohio where a
beautiful 800 seat auditorium was built for $2.6 million.
- Auditorium is a luxury.
- Too small to seat all the high school students.
- Editorial in Foster's about the design.
- We didn't need it.
- Probably the cost per student was too high.
- I hadn't heard enough about it to know if it was feasible or not. I didn't
know if it had been thoroughly investigated.
- The money, there are other things more important to spend it on.
- Not necessary.
- Poor design, waste of money.
- I didn't like the design, no multiple uses.
- Not necessary.
- Wants everything together, not worked out for the price.
- Don't need a facility like that.
- Bad plan, not big enough. There is no access to music and art rooms.
- School does not need an auditorium, UNH has adequate facilities for the high
school to use.
- Whole plan not carefully thought out.
- Auditorium is a luxury, not a requirement. It spends time being empty, and 500
seats doesn't fit the whole school.
