Following the call to order, the members present introduced themselves. The Committee then took an extensive tour of the existing High School facility, led by Dave Nichols, a faculty member at the High School and a member of the NEASC Accreditation Committee. The tour covered all areas of the school, and questions were answered by Mr. Nichols concerning the history and use of the building. The history of expansion and changing uses of the facility were discussed as well as suggestions from faculty re: needed expansion
After the tour concluded, Mr. Elwell handed out copies of a Summary Report of the Advisory, Committee dated June, 1995, state regulations re: minimum square footage required by function, and a short summary of the High School Technology Goals space needs.
The next item of business was the election of a chairperson. Mr. Rief expressed interest in the position upon being questioned about the same. John Lewis moved to nominate Mr. Reif as the Chairman of the Committee, second by Mr. Nichols. A vote was taken on the motion, which passed unanimously with a vote of 5-0. Mr. Brown, Ms. Welsh, and Al Elwell abstained from the vote.
Mr. Rief noted that he would to see a packet from the SAU office sent out to Committee members containing all plans and prior ideas which addressed High School expansion prior to the formation of this Committee. Mr. Elwell assured Mr. Rief he would see to it that the packets were sent out.
A meeting date was set for April 30, 1996 at 7:30 p.m. at the High School. A general consensus was reached to end meetings by 10:00 p.m., if possible.
