Minutes of High School Space Needs Study Committee

BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT:

John Aber, Jennifer Hogan, Robert Kennedy, John Lewis, Dave Nichols, Dave Penniman, George Rief, and Ann Welsh

ADMINISTRATORS PRESENT:

Christopher Cairns and Mike Everngam

The meeting was called to order at 7:12 p.m. by Chairperson George Rief.

The minutes of June 23, July 17, and July 30, 1996 were approved as written.

Mike Everngam presented a memo and graphic outline of PDT's proposed report (attached). Chris Cairns commented on the teacher input process and noted that Jeff Fleming from PDT will meet with teachers on September 11 to open dialogue. The committee then discussed the proposed format:

• The need for teacher input and a time line to achieve this input.

• Details of graphics and graphic representations.

• The need to retain focus on developing a needs concept.

• The need to keep the development of the Committee's report an iterative process with room for input from all sources and sufficient space in both time and structure for compromise to occur.

• The Committee noted that the format needed to be amended by the addition of discussion on additional field space, on phasing of financing/ construction, and additional facility comparisons.

• There was general consensus that the proposed format was suitable for the report.

Bob Kennedy presented a report on Portsmouth Christian Academy. A copy of the report is attached.

There was a discussion on student input into the design for the high school. Jen Hogan and Chris Cairns agreed to arrange a means to gather student comments through the ORHS Student Senate.

The Committee scheduled meetings for:

• 9/17 - Preparation of the interim report to the Board on 9/18; review of report schedule.

• 9/18 - Interim report to the Board.

• 9/24 - Work on Board response to the interim report.

• 10/16 - Final report to the Board.

Chairperson Rief adjourned the meeting at 8:35 p.m.
